MEAN JOE GREENE
During his 12 year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, ‘Mean’ Joe Green was at the heart of their ‘Steel Curtain’ defense. His intimidating style earned him the ‘Mean’ moniker, though he nearly lost his tough-guy image after featuring in this commercial for Coca-Cola.
The 60-second ad premiered during the 1979 Major League Baseball playoffs and later aired during Super Bowl XIV. It presented a more gentle side of the athlete, portraying him as a giant teddy bear in cleats.
You can guess how excited we were to find this shirt a while back!
We salute you, Mean Joe Green!
