DIRTY LOOKS

‘Dirty Looks’ has just opened at the Barbican Centre, and The Vintage Showroom took a trip around the corner to see some of the amazing garments up close.

At The Vintage Showroom, we never consider a garment past its prime. Holey, torn, faded, muddy, warped, or stained clothing can still hold beauty and intrigue, serving as a vehicle for storytelling and as evidence of time and use. This ethos was reflected throughout the ‘Dirty Looks’ exhibition, which romanticised the messy and misused, in what they called a move away from the sanitised lifestyle of the digital age.

Here we show a few faves from Hussein Chalayan, Margiela by Galliano, Robert Wun, Dilara Findikoglu, Sterling Ruby, Comme des Garçons, Hodakova, Issey Miyake, JORDANLUCA, Paolo Carzana and Solitude Studios – each exploring what the exhibition describes as a ‘desire to reconnect with the earth.’

The exhibition runs until January 2026.
