This Valentine’s Day, we’ve selected what we consider one of our most romantic pieces from the archive, this early 20th Century (probably Edwardian) muslin embroidered dress, belt and gloves combo.

This dress dates back to the early 20th Century, but the high waistline, straight skirt, puffed sleeves and, crucially, the use of muslin on this dress is evocative of those worn in the Regency era – arguably the UK’s most romanticised time-periods. If that’s not romantic enough it’s got bows, dainty embroidered flowers, and matching gloves to boot!

It brings to mind promenading and programme du bal’s… Happy Valentine’s Day!
