FROM THE ARCHIVE… MAX WELDY

This sparkly statement may not be our usual jam, but we were very excited to recently acquire this not-at-all understated piece by costume designer Max Weldy.

Weldy was a prolific designer based in Paris in the 1920s and 1930s, most notably designing for the Cabaret at Folies Bergère, along with many other circuses, broadway, film, and stage productions, all over France, Europe, and then worldwide.

When the Second World War broke out, Weldy fled to America, where he would go on to help design the costume of the world’s most famous clown, Ronald McDonald… surely we can forgive him for that when looking at this beautiful piece!
