HAPPY HALLOWEEN
Happy Halloween! We have a question for you, what’s your favourite scary movie?
We love scary movies at The Vintage Showroom. Horror is the genre with the most recognisable iconography, through it’s characters, posters, scores, and clothes. All of this only helps solidify the ‘cult’ status for so many of these movies. And so, interpreting them in the Showroom was a lot of fun! First up…
A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984
Directed by Wes Craven, seasoned slasher director, this film played a crucial part in creating and solidifying so many horror movie tropes to the genre, making it a genre that’s easy to poke fun at (which Craven then went on to do in the Scream franchise).
Friday the 13th, 1980
An early entry into the ‘Slasher’ genre, that started as an independent movie and is now part of a million-dollar franchise (including a crossover with Freddie from Elm Street…). Amazing that the hockey mask is so synonymous with the franchise, considering it wasn’t actually worn by Jason until the third film!
The Thing, 1982
A remake of Hollywood’s 1951 ‘The Thing from Another World’, by legendary horror director John Carpenter. It was originally met with negative reviews, only ensuring the cult status it now holds.
