HONG KONG DENIM FESTIVAL
The Vintage Showroom takes Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Denim Festival! And what an amazing and inspiring week we had.
We kicked off Hong Kong Denim Festival at Central Market, as part of the Transformers Foundation ED program, introduced by Emily Olah and hosted by Mohsin Sajid. Doug and our good friend David Tring were invited to speak to a group of students from the Hong Kong Design Institute on the importance of vintage clothing for design reference. We had some great questions from the audience, and the HKDI were kind enough to loan some pieces from their archive for the talk.
Vivian Wang kindly invited us to participate at the Kingpins Show Pop Up, held at the truly impressive Mills Fabrica building in Tsuen Wan. It was great to see some familiar Kingpins faces and also make some new friends from the Hong Kong Denim community. Special thanks to Michael Lam for all your hospitality!
It was an additional bonus to have a tour of the HKDI campus on the final day and visit their amazing student facilities! Mohsin Sajid was holding court in the brand new purpose built denim studio. The Fashion Archive visit was one of the highlights of the trip, thank you so much to Elita Lam for arranging and to Travis Lam and Arthur Chan for showing me around!
Of course, Doug uncovered a few amazing vintage treasures, but that is a story for another day…
