KEEPING IT UNIFORM

These nurses’ uniforms from the 1940s and 1950s showcase craftsmanship and attention to detail, and they’re a favourite from our Womenswear archive.

 

The pleats, hidden fastenings, and intricate button details have us infatuated.

 

The first two uniforms shown here are inscribed with the name Miss G. Hotaling, as shown below.

 

We put on our detective caps and discovered an obituary for Genevieve M. Hotaling, a WWII Army Air Corps nurse who served with the 8th Air Force Division. If these uniforms did indeed belong to her, they carry an incredible history.

 

Who says uniforms can’t be beautiful!
